TOOLBOX / FIBERS / VEGEA

vegea (wine leather).

Vegea Technical Textile is a manufactured, natural polymer, cellulose fiber by the company Vegea. Work on the wine leather project began in 2014, in cooperation with several Italian research centres and the University of Florence. By June 2016 Tessitore had patented the wine leather production process and launched his company, Vegea.

26 billion litres of wine is produced annually, providing an estimated seven billion kilos of grape marc, from which Vegea Technical Textile is derived from. With this amount could three billion square metres of wine leather could potentially be produced.

Vegea has developed a process to valorize wine waste where no toxic solvents, heavy metals and dangerous substances for humans and the environment are involved.

All of Vegea’s products are compliant with the most stringent European regulations (REACH), they are solvent free, animal friendly and Made in Italy.

VEGEA is produced in several versions which differ by technical and aesthetic properties such as thickness, elasticity, weight, finishing, texture, backing textile and bio-based content.
