barktex.

Barktex is a natural, cellulose fiber.

It is fabric, made of the bark of the East African fig tree mutuba, originating mainly from Uganda.

Barktex is harvested once a year without cutting down the tree, allowing the bark to grow back again. The barktex manufacture technique is considered UNESCO World Heritage. Very little energy is used during production giving it sustainable value. Additionally, its production is tied to socio-cultural projects.

Untreated barktex is compostable. Things like dye, toxic chemicals, blended fibers, and trims can hinder its compostability.
